Review #1 : Team Fortress 2

Team Fortress 2 :

Game Released -

October 10th, 2007, became Free to Play in June 23th, 2011.

Average Player Base -

Approximately 50,000 players playing at peak hours. According to the Steam Database.

Learning curve -

Intermediate due to the gameplay mechanics and class balancing system.

PC Specs Requirements -

For a 10-year-old game, I doubt you need a good PC to run this. You may customize configurations within the game's files for better frames per second, latency and reduce textures for better GPU functions.

Is it good?

In-depth Review :

The famous team-based shooter and a sequel to Team Fortress Classic, Team Fortress 2 gets my first review on this blog. The game is outstanding for its time and a lifespan of 10+ years and still hosting official VALVe servers and Community support is also still strong. Team Fortress 2 has one of its prominent designs for being cartoony and inspired recent hero-shooters such as Blizzard's Overwatch and Evil Mojo Game's Paladins.

Team Fortress 2 has 3 categories of classes you can choose, these include :

Offensive Classes :

Scout: Most mobile character in the whole game and allows your team to double the objective capturing rate. Can double jump. The only class that can do this.

Soldier: Easiest to use due to his weapon, Rocket Launcher, allows no-aim but still roughly needs to be accurate shots due to rocket blasts. This character also encourages Rocket Jump tricks.

Pyro: The masked man who speaks with muffled sounds and somehow is oblivious to the world around him. He has these "Pyroland" Vision and allows him to see rainbows and other childish stuff. Also likes setting enemies on fire.

Defensive Classes :

Demoman: Known as the Demolition Man, he wields a Grenade Launcher and a Sticky Bomb Launcher to blow enemies coming in his way. Mostly drunk and can shift his playstyle to a swordmaster with a shield.

Heavy: Slowest character in the game but his specialty is that he has the highest health at 300HP and uses a Minigun. He does a lot of damage and has sandwiches as a support item.

Engineer: Most fitting for a defensive class. He can build a Sentry Gun that locks on and shoots the enemies, a Dispenser to heal and give ammo to allies and Teleporters to help teammates traverse the map safely.

Support Classes :

Medic: The only official healer in the game. Can help teammates "overheal" by extending their health pool by 50%. (So Heavy can be overhealed to a maximum of 450HP) He also has a mechanic called Ubercharge which grants 7 seconds of invincibility to an ally that he heals with his Medi-Gun.

Sniper: The character with the most range and deadliest when played properly. He can execute targets from far away and instantly kill an overhealed Heavy with a shot to the head. Although, he needs to charge his Sniper Rifle to do these feats.

Spy: This class exists just to stop Engineers from building their guns. He has the Electro-Sapper which temporarily stuns Engineer's Buildings and a Knife which allows for an instant kill if stabbed at the back. A backstab will always kill no matter what.

The game is also divided into 2 different and choosable teams. RED and BLU, despite being acronyms, don't let their names fool you. BLU  usually does the objectives while RED defends against them. If RED defends until the time limit then they win, or if BLU completes their objectives within the time limit so they can win.

For example, this game mode called Payload. BLU team pushes a ticking bomb through RED's defenses and if BLU pushes through all the checkpoints and their base then BLU wins by blowing their RED's base into pieces.

Team Fortress 2 has over 10 official game modes and over 100 maps to choose and pick from in their queue. Pick whatever suits you and you can join right away! My favorite includes Payload, King of the Hill and Attack/Defense.

Aside from Team Fortress 2 is updated with new files, it also can get seasonal updates such as Scream Fortress 2 for Halloween. Scream Fortress 2 introduces already existing maps with more spooky backgrounds and materials and also includes Contracts you can complete on a specific map. Scream Fortress 2 also introduces Bosses within the battlefield which you can kill for item drops!

Smissmas, a yearly TF2 Christmas update, gives the game a balancing fix for weapons and new content. The game gives out a gift for everyone and a usable item called Giftapult which allows you to send items to a random person. What a Christmas spirit!

So...What are you waiting for? The game is Free To Play but you need a moderate size within your disk to play. It's around 20GB and the game is still running! Go download the game now! DO IT!

Enjoy the classes' interaction with each other with Dominating and Revenge lines and also their goofy personalities and voicelines!
