Synopsis (Spoiler Ahead) :

Title card of the movie.

Kimi No Na Wa (Your Name in English) is your average romance animated film but with added supernatural elements and a bit of realistic style to it. The movie takes place in Japan and borrows many real life places in Japan that you can visit. Makoto Shinkai directed this film along with many other films such as 5 Centimeter Per Second and Garden of Words (which are both critically well acclaimed.)

Kimi No Na Wa starts out with Mitsuha, a Japanese country teenage girl, who hates living in the countryside and wanted to be part of the city girl lifestyle, then we have Taki, a Tokyo city teenage boy who loves ancient structures such as Japanese temples, living in the city. Due to a phenomenon, Mitsuha and Taki switched bodies frequently and it may show that Mitsuha/Taki acts differently on particular day. The movie also tells a tale of a meteor that will pass over Japan in 2000 years. Until one day, Taki stopped switching bodies with her. Taki sets out to find the reason why the phenomenon stopped and researched Mitsuha's town and scenery to find her.

SPOILERS AHEAD!
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Taki finds out...

Taki traveled to the countryside to find her. It turns out that Mitsuha's home town, Itomori, has been destroyed by a meteor that passed over Japan. Taki struggled and was shocked that Mitsuha's homeland has been destroyed and a library confirmed her death. Taki traveled above the mountains to find Mitsuha's rice sake. Apparently the Taki drank the rice sake and traveled back in time. Taki, now in Mitsuha's body, tries to change the future by warning about the meteor strike before the festival day. Nobody believed her except for her closest friend who are Tessie and Sayaka. They advised a plan on festival day to hopefully distract a fake drill on the city and move them out of the range.

The day of the festival came and the plan to evacuate was going smoothly, but Sayaka and Tessie were caught and they did not trust Mitsuha anymore. Mitsuha went to talk to the Toshiki, Mitsuha's father and the mayor of Itomori, to evacuate the town with hope and courage.

The meteor struck the town...

8 years later, Taki is pursuing for a job in Tokyo. He is looking for a job that designs the future of Tokyo. He is looking for a job like an architect because of his old interest into shrines and landscape in Japan. While he was boarding a train, he saw a glimpse of a familiar girl...

Movie Rating : 9/10

This movie is a master piece that Makoto Shinkai made. I would review his other movies like Garden of Words and 5 Centimeter per Second the same too. The art style is unique and the music is fitting for this film. The story may be confusing at some parts but the story and the film flows really well.
